Λ.Ε.Σ. was founded in 1915 and was the first regional Lyceum after the foundation of the Central Lyceum of Athens in 1911. Since then, the presence of Λ.Ε.Σ. in the cultural events of our island was and still is exceptionally positive.
Λ.Ε.Σ. remains faithful to the causes set by the founder of Lyceum of Greeks Mrs Kallirroi Parren, i.e. the protection of Greek Women, the protection of Mother and Child, but also in the rescue, safeguarding and distribution of the traditions, morals and customs of our country.
Its offices are located in a privately owned neoclassical building in the heart of Hermoupolis (11 Georgiou Souri) which was a donation by Evangelos Petritzis (photo on the right). Λ.Ε.Σ. also owns another neoclassical building which is intended to become its Historical-folklore Museum. This building is currently undergoing heavy reconstruction work, in order to become fit to shelter all its exhibits. Since, Λ.Ε.Σ. is a non profit organisation, part of the expenses for this work is covered by donations from its members as well as funding from the European Union.
Both buildings were acquired as donations from big benefactors who appreciated its activities, social and cultural offer to the island.
